Coach John Marshall: Great team defense begins at the catching position. The catcher should set up a distance behind the plate so that he will not be hit by a swinging bat. The basic catching position is in a squat, the knees bent and the weight on the balls of the catcher's feet.
Your feet should be parallel to each other, about shoulder-width apart. The catcher should keep his wrist loose, so that when he's giving a target, he can adjust to a ball thrown inside, outside, high or low.
