Coach Billy Hall: Hey, ever seen one of these? This is called a pancake glove. This glove, with this glove, you can do a cool drill. This will allow you to have soft hands, and help you receive the ball instead of stabbing at it.
One thing we want to do is, I'm going to show you the proper way to soften your hands using this pancake glove. I'm going to have a coach throw me a few balls. When catching the ball, we want to have soft hands. We want to have fingers down, not flat. If the fingers are flat, it's a ramp – if the fingers are down, now I can receive it because it turns more into a backstop.
This is a cool drill right here. If you can catch a ball with this, you can catch a ball with anything.
