Coach Nick Giaquinto: We're going to work on double play feeds – when the ground ball is hit right at the shortstop, and right at the second baseman. In this technique, the shortstop is going to take a little drop step, get his shoulders square to second base, get the ball above his elbow, and make a good firm throw to second.
We'll start at shortstop with Coach Kaplan. I'm going to step to the side and roll ground balls. Here we go, Coach. Notice how Coach Kaplan stays low throughout the show motion. We'll go one more, Coach Kaplan. Now we'll move over to the second base pivot, where Pat is going to get his shoulders square to the shortstop, and make a good firm throw. Also notice how Pat stays low on this, dropping to his left knee.
That's how we do our double play feeds, with a ground ball hit right at the shortstop or the second baseman.
