Nunzio Campanile: We use this sled for drive blocking occasionally for our fullbacks. It's really important because the sled actually won't go up unless you hit it properly so you want to strike it with your head up, so you can put the bolts of your facemask right into the bag and your hand placement is really important. You have to be able to place your hands inside so you can lock your elbows out, so your thumbs are going to go in and you’re going to lock your elbows out and at the same time you're going to drive your feet so that you extend them.

When we are running an isolation play, or an off-tackle power play, we want our fullback to run right down the middle of the linebacker and we want him to take him right out of the hole, we want to knock him right off the football. This would be an example of that. Usually those blocks happen really fast, it's not like you’re going to run the guy 12 yards downfield, he's coming at you just as hard as you’re coming at him, so it's really important to practice where you're going to place your face, where you're going to place your hands, and that you're going to get good extension and that you're going to drive your legs. Those are the kind of things that are constantly important in drive blocking for a running back.
