Ralph Napolitano: Every wrestling match starts with what we call the neutral position. They call it the neutral position because neither wrestler has an advantage. They go from the beginning starting lines, each wrestler will start with a foot on their line and now they are ready. They get in their ready stance, and when the referee blows the whistle, then they have to attack and start moving forward.

The first step should always be forward, ready to wrestle because if it's steps back, then the referee might call you for stalling and that's not a good caution to have at the beginning of a match.
