Our Favorite Youth Baseball Drills
Our coaches have created this playlist of baseball drills to help young players develop specific skills. The Side-Toss Hitting Drill is perhaps the best single practice routine for teaching young hitters to be more disciplined at the plate. This simple drill allows hitters to work on keeping their weight back rather than lunging forward after off-speed pitches. By experimenting with different tosses, players can build confidence in their ability to adapt their swing to various pitch types and locations.
Throwing drills, such as the Check Points Drill and the Towel Drill, are essential to building a fundamentally sound throwing motion for young baseball players. The Check Points Drill works very well for improving muscle memory and repetition when it comes to correct hand and shoulder positioning. The Towel Drill, although more relevant to pitchers, is a great tool for visualizing arm extension at the point of release and practicing follow-through.
The Charging the Ball video is one of our favorite baseball drills for teaching infielders to attack ground balls and how to field the ball on the best possible hop. The Fielding Triangle video likewise reinforces the right body positioning for making both routine and highlight-reel plays. Combining these techniques will help you to minimize errors and avoid unnecessary injuries.
