Lou Marinelli: OK, so we're going to talk about (how) Kyle is going to be pass blocking and Mike is going to come, make contact with a bull rush and then try to swim around, swim over or rip through as a pass rush technique to get to the quarterback. Let's just go through this very slowly. Mike, grab underneath his shoulder pads like that. He's trying to bull rush. Now don't go back too far.
Now he's got two moves, he can either swim through, which he's going to push with this arm and swim with the other, watch, go. Swimming through, or come on back, we're going to try to rip through, where he'll go and take, put your hands in placement, and now he is going to rip under, ready go. Rip through, very good. Now the one thing that Mike didn't do that you want to think about is, if he is going to rip, you want to pull him this way to turn his shoulder pads to rip through. He's not going to allow you to just to go this way. So as he's here, he bull rushes, he tries to pull and rip through to get to the quarterback.
Let's see what it looks like again. Get up underneath him, good and let's try to rip, ready, go. Good, I'd like to see you pull a little bit more; let's go again. We're going to try to rip. Ready, go. Good, let's go through it again, we're going to do our swim technique. Ready, go. Once we get there, we're going to go up field to the quarterback. Let's go full speed and see what it looks like. We're not sure what Mike's going to use, but we're going find out. Let's let them go full speed and let's see what it looks like, whether it's rip or swim. Set, go! All right, he swam to the outside. Good job, Mike. Those are examples of two techniques you can use, the rip and the swim when rushing the passer.
